Anti-virus ozone therapy. New Hope from Brescia
An ancient remedy is proving to be a possible medicine of the future. The study based on the use of ozone therapy to combat Covid-19 started in Brescia, thanks to a team led by Antonio Galoforo. It has already given positive results in China, where it has been applied to patients with different stages of disease progression, and is currently being tested in some Italian hospitals. And, as announced yesterday by Governor Luca Zaia, the tests will also start in Veneto.
At the END of JANUARY, when Covid-19 was still confined to Wuhan, Galoforo – a professor at the University of Pavia and a doctor at the Città di Brescia clinic – undertook a collaboration with the Chinese authorities to define the methods of using ozone therapy. The partnership resulted in a protocol, validated by the ethics committee of Haihe University and Hospital. In mid-February, during an international conference call with a delegation of Chinese doctors, managers of research centers and 272 heads of the Ministry of Health, Galoforo presented the scientific evidence of the effects of the therapy. On February 21, Sioot published the research in which the specialist from Brescia highlighted how ozone therapy had already given significant results in the treatment of pneumonia, SARS and Ebola. “The virus discovered in Wuhan and the SARS virus both belong to the Coronavirus strain – explains Galoforo -. Researchers have found that Covid-19 is 80% similar to the SARS virus. It is therefore reasonable to predict that ozone may be equally effective in preventing and controlling the new Coronavirus.” “On February 23, I had to leave for China – says Manerbio’s doctor -: I should have stayed there for a month, but then we entered the ‘red zone’ and this was no longer possible. But the scientific exchange at a distance has continued.” In recent days, the Higher Institute of Health sent a letter to the president of Sioot defining the ways in which it is possible to evaluate oxygen ozone therapy in patients suffering from Covid-19. “Given the experimental nature – reads the document -, it is also appropriate to obtain the opinion of the Ethics Committee” and “the trial must be authorized by the Italian Medicines Agency.”
“Oxygen ozone therapy has no side effects and has a very low cost: why not try it? – asks Galophorus-. In early February, precisely in the light of international scientific evidence, I tried to sensitize institutions, primarily the Lombardy Region, about the validity of this approach. The answers are starting to arrive now, after two months. But in this period, how many deaths have there been? I feel trapped: there is the possibility of counteracting an emergency situation in some way, but it cannot be done because strict protocols must be followed. This therapy has no contraindications or disadvantages: perhaps the only problem is that it has a very low cost and there is no big pharmaceutical company involved. Ergo, we don’t have a say like anyone else.” The hope is that “the results that are coming from – so far few – Italian hospitals experimenting with ozone therapy will finally serve to open a new path, which could save many lives.”
Cinzia Reboni – Bresciaoggi 08/04/2020[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]THE STUDY. Signs of improvement in more severe patients. The mild ones have healed.
The all-Brescia team that contributed to the research is composed of Catia Scassellati and Cristian Bonvici from the Fatebenefratelli Institute. “This is no accident,” explains Antonio Galoforo, member of the board of directors of the Sioot Scientific Society for Oxygen and Ozone Therapy, which collaborates with the Higher Institute of Health and contact person for the Lombardy Region for hearings on the use of ozone in medicine and the environment. “Right here, a unique project in the world, lasting three years and funded entirely by the Ministry of Health, is being carried out, which involves the application of ozone therapy to treat cognitive frailty and Alzheimer’s,” explains the professor at the University of Pavia.
BUT HOW CAN OZONE attack Covid-19?
“Ozone is an antibacterial, antimycotic and antiviral that works by destroying the virus capsule, so it prevents it from replicating – explains Antonio Galoforo -. It also activates circulation, reduces inflammatory states and stimulates the immune system tremendously. If we put all these effects together, the benefits are obvious.”
THE PROCEDURE involves taking the patient’s blood, and adding a mixture of oxygen and ozone to the blood bag. The blood thus’ enriched ‘is then returned to the patient.
“During the trial, various patients were treated at various stages: from asymptomatic positives to those already on forced ventilation or in an already compromised situation,” the doctor points out. And the results can be seen in a few days.”
In fact, since the first report of the Sioot on the first two hospitals that started therapy – to date there are 15 facilities where oxygen ozone therapy is being practiced – eleven patients in serious conditions have had a rapid and decisive improvement. The patient with the least serious conditions recovered after a few sessions and returned home.
The only deceased in the group was in a largely compromised condition. C.REB.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
